Department of Physics
Equity and diversity information page
Message from the Head of Department
Haere mai! Equity, diversity, and inclusiveness are core aspirations in our Department. We aim for our students and staff to have a safe environment in which to study, work, and otherwise enjoy the wonders of Physics.
The Department hosts a dedicated equity committee who lead this work by identifying areas where improvement is needed and then subsequently develop initiatives to mitigate issues identified. Members of the committee are happy to discuss with you any equity-related issues you may have encountered, provide help as appropriate, and direct to support resources available in the wider university. Ngā mihi.
Professor Jan Eldridge
Head of Department of Physics
Our mission
We are committed to supporting everyone’s aspirations to study and work in physics, regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation. We firmly believe that diversity is key to achieve groundbreaking advances and to unlock the full potential of humanity. Our aspiration is to be a Department that welcomes, fosters, and embraces diversity for the betterment of the discipline and the society. Similarly to The University of Auckland more broadly, we recognise the status of Māori as tangata whenua and acknowledge the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
